We are TukiTech — Building Finance for Community

Vikoba was born from a simple observation: millions of Tanzanians already participate in savings circles. They just needed better tools.

The Story

The kikoba — also called a chama, upatu, or tontine depending on the country — is one of the oldest financial instruments in East Africa. Members pool contributions, and each takes a turn receiving the pot. It is savings, credit, and community in one.

The problem has always been coordination. Paper ledgers get lost. Trusted treasurers move away. Arguments erupt over who paid and when. Groups dissolve not because the idea fails, but because the administration does.

We founded TukiTech in Dar es Salaam to solve exactly this. Vikoba is the result: a mobile platform that handles the record-keeping, the reminders, the payments, and the audits — leaving groups free to focus on what matters: growing together.

We are not a bank. We do not hold your money. We connect your group to the mobile money infrastructure that Tanzania already runs on, and we make the rules transparent and enforceable. The circle stays yours.

Our Values

What guides us

Community First

The tontine is not our invention — it is centuries old. We built Vikoba to serve this tradition, not replace it. Every product decision starts with the question: does this make the group stronger?

Radical Transparency

Every shilling that moves inside a Vikoba group is visible to all its members. We apply the same standard to ourselves — our fees, our uptime, and our data practices are open.

Built for Africa

We are a Tanzanian company building for Tanzanian users. Our infrastructure, our languages, our payment integrations, and our support are all designed around East African realities.

Trust Through Technology

Technology does not create trust — people do. But technology can enforce agreements, record actions, and surface information that makes trust easier. That is our role.
